Your Guide to the Best Data Visualization & Design Conferences in 2024 & 2025
The Data Visualization & Design Conferences 2024-2025 Guide is showing more live and in-person events, but something in the visualization conference landscape has changed. Covid-19 ripped through travel and conference attendance and we’re still seeing the effects. Some of the most notable conferences featured on past lists have died or have gone quiet for a year. Most notably the Eyeo Festival. Others have merged with other festivals and summits, incorporating other topics into their conference names and agendas. Artificial intelligence conferences have embedded themselves alongside data visualization and digital design in a few of the conferences I like below. This year, AI is in everything along the data analytics-to-data-visualization-visual-communications pipeline. And rightfully so.
In addition to data visualization conferences, I have expanded this guide showcasing creative design conferences from North America, Australia, Asia, and Europe. Use this year’s conference guide as a travel planner. So get out, travel, meet new people, and learn more about what makes data visualization & design such a fantastically interesting area to work in.
December 2024
International Conference on Digital Art, Visual Effects and Graphic Design
December 2nd, 3rd — Tokyo, Japan (onsite and virtual)
The one conference on this list that covers the topic near and dear to our hearts at the Datalabs Agency — data-driven design — the International Conference on Digital Art, Visual Effects and Graphic Design is a sister conference to some on this list. Put on by the World Academy of Science, Engineering, and Technology, this conference plays to its strength: its niche. So if your brain can handle “Graphene-Based Neuroprobes for High-Resolution Brain Mapping” then this might be the conference for you.
February 2025
International Conference on Information Visualization Theory and Applications 2025
February 26th to the 28th, 2025 — Porto, Portugal (in-person & virtual)
The International Conference on Information Visualization Theory and Applications (IVAPP) is for people who are interested in three main areas: information visualization, scientific visualization, & visualization techniques.
This conference is very much an academic conference, as opposed to the deceased, art-focused Eyeo Festival and some of the more tech-centric programs found in other conferences on this list. But don’t let that hold you back. There’s something for each curious visualizer. My particular interest lies in the visualization technique areas — in particular, this year’s 15th annual IVAPP lists three awesome topics that piqued my interest.
- Information Visualization
- Scientific Visualization
- Visualization Techniques
So if you’re in southern Europe in February, attend this reliable stalwart on the data viz calendar.
March 2025
DATA festival 2025
March 26th & 27th, 2025 — Munich, Germany (onsite and virtual)
This year’s DATA festival is back live and in-person, with a new slate of speakers primarily from Germany and Central Europe. Past speakers came from the who’s who of European business: Siemens, Merck, IKEA, Lufthansa, and Zeiss. As with other data visualization conferences on this list, artificial intelligence as a topic is top of mind in this year’s conference program.
I especially want to see the Opening Keynote for 2025 conference: “GenAI – what is hype and what is real?”
May 2025
All Flows
May 14th to the 16th — Milton Keyes, England (Onsite and virtual)
A new entrant to this coolest design conference list, the All Flows conference bills itself as a “forward-thinking creative, design, & digital festival.” This is an impressive mix of brainwork with technical abilities and the speakers’ list bears that out. I love to see data artists get their due. So I am particularly excited to see Tiziana Alocci speak and showcase her design and data work.
Take a look at this design conference. Inspiration is a click away and make sure you bookmark this event your calendar.
July 2025
Electronic Visualisation & the Arts Conference, London
July 7th to the 11th — London, England (onsite and virtual)
Looking at visualization technologies in the arts and the sciences, again the 2025 version of EVA London will be located in the BCS London office in Moorgate. Held every year since 1990, this conference always ranks in my Top 3. One, because it’s in London in the summer. Two, because I want to know more about the “fringes” of visualization. The programme for 2025 has not been release yer, however, looking at the following areas for EVA London last year, you can get a sense of my this conference is a goer:
- Museums and Collections
- Digital Art
- Data, Scientific, and Creative Visualisation
- 2D and 3D Imaging, Display and Printing
And of course, if you are into merged technologies, these two adjacent topics at the 2024 EVA London conference :
- Artificial Intelligence
- and the Metaverse
If you’re in Europe and only check out one conference on this list, I’d go with this one.
November 2025
IEEE VIS 2025
November 2nd to the 7th, 2025 — Vienna, Austria (onsite and virtual)
Moving on from IEEE VIS 2024‘s host city of St. Pete’s Beach, Florida, — the 2024 conference will move to Europe and be held in Vienna, Austria. Very nice. Billed as the “premier forum for advances in visualization and visual analytics”, IEEE VIS 2025 promises to convene pretty much everybody (researchers and practitioners from universities, government, and industry) to talk about design and the use of visualization tools. Last year, JP Morgan Chase, Apple, Carnegie Mellon, MIT, & Tableau sent their best.
The programme for this visualization conference is still to be announced. Looking the 2024 conference, including the side summits and workshops, held recently in October, you can see some great topics including the Visualization for Explainable AI workshop! So if you’re in Central Europe, attend another great data visualization conference, one of the top 3 on this 2025 list!
About the Best Data Visualization & Design Conferences of 2024 & 2025
Some annual summits, professional events, and conferences that I eagerly want to attend are yet to finalize their dates for 2025. New design conferences are emerging and the rise of generative AI is giving birth to new data design & art forms — these new types of visualization & design conferences are often much cooler in their presentations and shaking off the stodgy feel of conferences of old.
There is also good news, as the roster of conferences in 2024 & 2025 dedicated to exploring and drawing inspiration from data visualization has expanded. The compilation above includes a mix of popular data visualization conferences and those with a more graphic design, UX, and digital art focus.
If you don’t see a conference in your country listed, please reach out, and I’ll make it a priority to update this 2024 & 2025 data visualization and design conference list throughout the year.
